Internationalization Series Seminar of Sociology Study Program, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. “Western Sociology Is More Famous? Reflections For Fishum Sociologists”

At the Studio of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Prof. Sabine Brombach shared her messages and impressions during her time as a guest lecturer in Sociology. Through a podcast hosted by Uzair, Ph.D., it began with the question, what were her messages and impressions during her time as a Guest Lecturer in Sociology Fishum. Prof. Sabine shared her very pleasant experience as a guest lecturer, which was the first time she felt the atmosphere of the month of Ramadan, where the entire Muslim academic community was fasting. Unknowingly she also fasted even though she did not fast completely. In addition, she also expressed her pride in the warm welcome by the university leadership, faculty, study programs, and also students. She was very happy that every day there were scientific activities carried out. She even said that the atmosphere at Fishum really made her feel at home.

Indonesian culture is very diverse, as are the tourist destinations she visited such as museums, Prambanan temple, Borobudur temple and also culinary places in Yogyakarta. It was really fun, she said. In fact, she was amazed by the documentation of the activities carried out while being a Guest Lecturer on the Sociology website which would be seen by her friends and family in Germany. She openly said that the photos depicting her work activities as a guest lecturer from the Senior Expertice Service (SES) would be sweet memories for her. She will see her activities during her time at Fishum through photos, Instagram, and also YouTube.

When asked about why Western Sociologists are more famous? Prof. Sabine Brombach said that on the wall of the Sociology study program office there were pictures of Max Weber, Duhkeim and Karl Max. They are classical sociological theory figures. Their thoughts have been widely referred to by Sociologists in particular and also other social scientists. Their thoughts seem to never end even though there have been modern theory figures. However, they are always referred to. Why is that, because they were the first to introduce knowledge at the world level. Their thoughts are not always perfect, there is a lot of criticism from their followers. Therefore, these thoughts continue to develop. So their thoughts are not too perfect. However, because they publish their thoughts at the world level, they automatically become big because their thoughts are disseminated by their followers. Therefore, it is very important for Sociologists to publish their ideas at the global level.

At the end of the podcast, Prof. Sabine Brombach hopes that this collaborative relationship will continue so that it will produce scientific thoughts that are published at the global level. Her gratitude for her acceptance at Fishum, especially Sociology, was conveyed with a sweet and very friendly smile. Yes, Prof. Sabine Brombach is indeed a very humble scientist. Thank you Prof. Sabine Brombach, we will definitely miss you very much. Welcome back to Germany. (Napsiah)
