INTERNATIONALIZATION ACTIVITIES OF SOCIOLOGY STUDY PROGRAM “Writing Scientific Articles: The Case may be Local, but the Theme m
A number of Sociology Lecturers took advantage of the facilities provided by UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Yogyakarta and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities for the Senior Expertice Service (SES) program. This time the Sociology Study Program explored the experience in exploring the compilers of research into articles that are worthy of publication. At the event, Dr. Napsiah, presented her article entitled "Gender Inequality in Managing the Merapi Eruption Disaster". The research was funded by research and community service institution (LPPM) UIN Sunan Kalijaga in 2023. Previously, the article was sent to Prof. Sabine Brombach's email the day before, to be studied first. Tuesday, March 4, 2025 in the Munaqosyah room which is currently used as Prof. Sabine's room, the article was presented in front of Prof. Sabine and also Lecturers of the Sociology Study Program.
After the presentation was finished, Prof. Sabine gave criticism of the article. Prof. Sabine said that local issues are important to be raised as international issues, by starting the issue at the international level. So don't rush to raise local issues, he said. Prof. Sabine said: "I saw in front of the Sociology study program room there were pictures of Weber, Durkheim, Marx and everyone knows these figures. There were no pictures of local people there". Therefore, with international figures people know about them. So it is with research issues. Issues about inequality are everywhere, without exception in Indonesia. However, what inequality will be raised, that is what is important, said Prof. Sabine. In addition, Prof. Sabine also added that the literature used should also use international literature, even though it has been published in local journals, but do foreign editors know about it, let alone using Indonesian. So in the introduction, it should be revealed that it is international in nature, that's his explanation. Not only that, Prof. Sabine said that theoretical studies should also answer questions. Not only that, the writing of the method must be detailed. For example, in Mrs. Napsiah's article, it is mentioned that there are 10 informants but they are not balanced, between men and women. There are 2 male informants, but 8 female informants. It should be 5 male and 5 female informants made female. If there is a reason for choosing informants, then it is explained in detail in the method.
Prof. Sabine also criticized the title of the article, even Prof. Sabine provided an alternative title that is international in nature. In addition, the structure or template of the journal is adjusted, do not be rigid, unless the journal requires the use of the IMRAD (Introduction, Method, Result, Discussion) template. Several international journals were shown by Prof. Sabine to prove that technical writing is not rigid and also the writing of the title is truly perfect. Much experience and knowledge was gained from the event, not only the improvement of the articles that had been presented, but also the knowledge to conduct research and publish them in reputable journals. Thank you Prof. Sabine. See you at the next internationalization agenda.(Napsiah)
