INTERNATIONALIZATION ACTIVITIES OF SOCIOLOGY STUDY PROGRAM “Strategy for choosing an International Journal”
“A good theme is a local theme but becomes a global issue”, this is the key to breaking into an international journal. The ideas presented are adjusted to the template of the targeted journal. That was the first thing the author did to publish the results of his research, so Prof. Sabine Brombach revealed to Sociology Lecturers who were enthusiastic about learning more about the strategy for publishing their research at the international level, on Friday, March 7, 2025 in his office as Senior Expert Services (SES) at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta.
Furthermore, Prof. Sabine Brombach wanted to know the motivation of a number of lecturers who were present, why they were interested in publishing their writings at the international level. The responses of Sociology Lecturers varied. Some answered because of the need to meet the demands of Lecturer certification which requires that every 2 years Lecturers must produce published articles. Trying to develop science, and some answered so that research results do not just stop at reports, which are not read by the wider community. In addition, Prof. Sabine Brombach also asked why journal rankings are important? Answering this question, the Sociology Lecturer answered that the ranking shows that the journal has been recognized by the indexing institution. The higher the journal level, the better the quality. Hearing this statement, Prof. Sabine Brombach was a little stunned. According to him, all journals are good so there is no need to think about their rankings. Just cultivate writing and submitting, about being rejected is a common thing, don't give up, that's how he gave support to the Lecturers who were present at that time. The journal you are aiming for is in accordance with the theme written. Examine the journal you are aiming for. Usually the journal will immediately reject if the theme does not match the writing you submit. Therefore, be careful in choosing a journal. Also see whether the journal is paid or open access for free. This is up to the author. If you want a paid journal, can you afford the specified fee? This depends on the author. Prof. Sabine Brombach also recommends journals on the website to be accessed. According to him, the journal shown is a journal that is in great demand by world scientists. In addition, he also sent an email to one of the Sociology Lecturers to submit his writing to the journal he recommended.
This international activity was not as usual because the discussion was general but still around scientific writing and publication to international journals. Therefore, the Sociology Lecturer was asked to give an opinion about what the Sociology Lecturer actually wanted. Hearing that statement, the lecturers who were present at that time did not waste the opportunity. The question came from Napsiah who asked, do journals in Germany have a trending theme? Have you ever been a journal editor? Answering the question, Prof. Sabine Brombach smiled sweetly and answered that there was no special trend about the theme, all themes are good, the point is that it is general and known by outsiders, even though the issue is local. Regarding the editor, Prof. Sabine Brombach revealed that she had never been a journal editor because she focused on her profession.
The next question came from young lecturers, namely Dwi Nur Laela Fithriya, M.A. and Nisrina Muthahari, M.A. Both asked whether it was possible after the article review agenda was completed they would discuss the proposal that would be submitted to continue their Doctoral studies? The question was warmly welcomed by Prof. Sabine Brombach, both were invited to come personally to her office for more intensive guidance. Both will continue their studies abroad, by preparing everything including the research proposal that will be used as a Dissertation. Alhamdulillah, today's agenda has been carried out well. We look forward to the next agendas with much more interesting topics. One point gained today is not to give up, including language limitations are not a big problem, because language is a habit, the more often it is used the more trained it will be. Keep up thespirit.(Napsiah).
