Kartini is an icon. She becomes an Indonesian women’s emancipation personage who did not only belong to Javanese culture. As a phenomenal figure, Kartini has been written by many intellectuals in scientific studies and literary works. Pramoedya Ananta Toer is one of the leading writers in working on Kartini in his novel.

Pram's work on Kartini entitlesPanggil Aku Kartini Saja. This novel was researched by Ahmad Riyanto, the Sociology Department student of the chapter 2012, with the title of his undergraduate thesis“Feminisme Dalam Pemikiran Pramoedya Ananta Toer (Studi Literartur Roman Panggil Aku Kartini Saja)”with the guidance of Drs. Musa, M.Si. This research uncovers the aspects of feminism in this phenomenal character, Kartini. Besides, Ahmad investigates the historical and social background as the locus where Kartini had become an affair. Ahmad, a Madura student, has an interest in Pram because his literary works especially in novels have become baboons for the realist literary movement studies in Indonesia.

"For me, Pram is one of the phenomenal writers of this nation, and from his various works, Pram often depicts women who are oppressed or struggling for equal rights, including Kartini who rejects feudalism and all the consequences, especially marginalization of women," Ahmad explained.

Kartini lived in the center of feudalism. Kartini grew up in such of family and culture. Interestingly, Ahmad was able to identify the factors that led Kartini to leave and fight against feudalism. Education or literacy was the first key for Kartini to cultivate her critical awareness in responding to the patriarchal system of the Javanese feudalism. The literacy ability (read and write) and then be able to correspond with her Dutch friend, Estelle Zeehandelaar, became the groundwork of Kartini's struggle against patriarchy and feudal culture.

Pram's enthusiasm for Kartini was increasingly distinctive by showing the resistance aspects. Also, Pram's revolutionary view was an important factor in placing Kartini as a revolutionary person. Pram through his novels does not want to submit to any structure. The more they are oppressed, the more resistance spirit moves against. (@bjeben).
